Aquaculture in Norway

Norwegian aquaculture operates in the natural environment that we all share, and that imposes obligations on everyone involved. For this reason, sustainability within aquaculture is more than just a catchword; it is a basic prerequisite for the very existence and profitability of the business.The authorities, research communities and industry are all working together to enable Norwegian aquaculture to operate within a sustainable framework.

The Norwegian oceans and especially our coastal zone has great potential for food production and it is important that this production is managed viable. The Norwegian aquaculture industry and Norwegian authorities take environmental challenges seriously and take a common responsibility towards safeguarding that the production in this sector is sustainable. 

The Norwegian fishery authorities have the main responsibility for ensuring a socially, economically and environmentally sustainable seafood production. The fish farming industry in Norway is subject to strict regulation.
